2016 California Vacation

Photography road trip: San Francisco, Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks, and West Coast Highway #1

My vacation arose on somewhat short notice when I realized how much PTO time I needed to use or lose before year end. With just under a month to plan I jumped onto the NPS (National Park Service) websites to research Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks. I upgraded my AAA memership to take advantage of premier services. And, I purchased my airline tickets and car rental. I would fly into San Francisco, pick up the rental car, do a little city sight-seeing, get overnight accommodations outside of town, and the next day begin my road trip in earnest. The plan was to spend most of my time exploring Yosemite, get acquainted with Sequoia, and enjoy part of the West Coast on my way back up to San Francisco to fly home.

Upper Yosemite Fall

Where's the "Fall?" Yep, no water in this picture. By mid-summer there just isn't enough mountain runoff to provide more than a trickle (if that). Spring is the best time to see Yosemite Fall. Normally you would see it on the right side of the picture where you presently see a dark streak running down the mountain.

"Upper Yosemite Fall: The 1,430-foot (440 m) plunge alone is among the twenty highest waterfalls in the world. Trails from the valley floor and down from other park areas outside the valley lead to both the top and base of Upper Yosemite Fall. The upper fall is formed by the swift waters of Yosemite Creek, which, after meandering through Eagle Creek Meadow, hurl themselves over the edge of a hanging valley in a spectacular and deafening show of force." • I wouldn't say I saw a lot of deer in Yosemite. And, the ones I did see seemed on the small side. In any case they seem pretty acclimated to the tourist traffic.
  • Its not that often you see six middle-age guys hanging out together! Worth a photo. LoL
